About Roxie Deku

A native of California, she was born and raised in Santa Monica, a coastal town in Los Angeles County. For twenty years Roxann worked in social services in Los Angeles counseling and providing job placement for homeless and ex offenders before focusing on domestic violence victims at programs such as the Genesee Center in Los Angeles. Moving to San Diego, Roxann and her mother founded the Friends of Russell Latimer, Inc. a non profit organization that housed battered women and homeless and ex offenders under HUD and other grants for six years. Currently the organization focuses its attention on global interests providing medical supplies and equipment to Ghana and Nigeria as well as providing training to social workers from Africa in US non profits, learning facilitator skills and becoming certified in various social working modules. In 1997 Roxann established WIM Media, with Women In Motion magazine, a celebrated and award winning multi cultural magazine for women, it won Roxann the prestigious San Diego Business Journal award for Journalism in 1998. In 2000 Roxann became a credentialed television producer and has produced talk shows and music video shows to her credit. As President of WIM Media & Publications Group, Roxann has created several shows currently airing on public access television in the United States and in Ghana West Africa, Women in Motion and Nation 2 Nation.Roxann has also worked as a journalist and briefly taught journalism at San Diego State University where she began an entrepreneurial program for at risk youth in crating and selling their own newspaper. Roxann is also an award winning artist, writer and poet. Her debut romance novel You Never Know was published in 2002 and her sophomore release, Murder Most Mystic came out in early 2007, Street Life is due out in 2010.Specialties: grant writing, graphic design, advocacy, business development, fiction writing and public speaking
