This role involves working as a Trainee Psychologist on the Time for You project, supporting referrals who opt-in to receive support using talking therapies and/or counselling to improve their mental health, well-being and resilience. Offering 1:1 support using the person-centred therapeutic approach.

This role focused on building strong relationships with a group of diverse young people aged 11-26 by mentoring and facilitating them to build their confidence, resilience and leadership skills and develop the concept of Scotland's Young People's Forest, supporting them to take part in the most innovative and effective ways and helping to inspire young people from communities across Scotland to contribute to the nation's climate ambitions. The main philosophy behind this work was co-design, a non-hierarchical method of working with young people. I created and facilitated the sessions, but they were ultimately led by the young people, giving them complete autonomy of their own experience whilst being held in a safe and measured environment. • Organising and facilitating regular in-person and online meetings, workshops, and residential events with young people and external stakeholders.• Navigating the ethical considerations of working with young people with additional support needs and diverse life experiences.• Monitoring and evaluating the impact of Scotland's Young People's Forest project on the young people participating by using our Monitoring and Evaluation Framework to support continuous improvement and best practice.• Working collaboratively with young people to achieve shared goals whilst encouraging, inspiring and supporting them to realise their potential.

Working with primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities to deliver curriculum-linked activities that increase students' understanding of nature and the environment.• Developing, planning, and delivering curriculum-based out-of-classroom learning courses and activities in outdoor teaching sites to students on science and geography school trips.• This involves leading groups of all abilities, additional support needs and diverse life experiences in the local environment, ensuring the health and safety of the group at all times.• Conduct pre-course liaisons with visiting staff to identify the appropriate learning outcomes for the visit and to prepare for the arriving groups' educational and physical needs by identifying each student's individual learning needs.

An environmental education project aimed at engaging over 2,000 local primary and secondary school children based in their local protected Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, an important Kenyan coastal forest.• Developing interactive teaching materials such as forest bingo, the senses game, the format of the nature walks and the classroom presentation based on local species, the threats from humans to the forest ecosystem and the implemented mitigation methods.• Created positive working relations with forest stakeholders such as the Kenya Forest Service, Friends of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, A Rocha Kenya, Wildlife Clubs of Kenya and Eco-World.• Managed the accounts and payments of the project, ensuring that all spending was within the budget.• Managed the training of education staff, including organising biodiversity training days within the forest.• Managed pre-visit liaisons with involved schools and established post-visit follow-up involvement

This unpaid placement with the government organisation Natural England for 13 months (40 hours/week) within a Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) team of roughly 20 people. The placement aimed to develop strong relationships with the local stakeholders and land owners to focus on water quality and deliver the aims of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) through various schemes and outreach programmes.• Took over the management of two different Diffuse Water Pollution Plans: Marazion Marsh in Cornwall and the Salcombe and Kingsbridge Estuary in Devon. Took the Marazion plan to completion with work on the plan in progress now, and the marsh is in recovery; this involved many inter-organisational meetings and co-operation from all organisations involved. • Assisted various colleagues on visits to farms under the Higher-Level Scheme and CSF to discuss with farmers their engagement with the schemes and best options to reduce the water pollution they created. This also included taking soil samples for lab analysis to see what scheme options could be best tailored for each field parcel. • Organised and participated in CSF workshops to increase farmer knowledge about the scheme's aim and the impact of water quality, what is offered that best suited their farm needs and how they could take part.

This Internship focused on the adverse effects of marine tourism and worked towards reducing the harm this caused to the environment through education, raising awareness and hands-on conservation.
