Shipco Marine Constructors Ltd is a privately owned company operating from its shipyard located in the North Island of New Zealand in the city of Whangarei.The ship building operation was founded in January of 1990 and since that time some 75 vessels have been built. In addition to vessels built for the New Zealand industry, vessels built by the company can be found in Australia, Fiji and New Caledonia.The early years saw the company building barges for coastal and international towing. “Sea-Tow 4” with a DWT capacity of 8000 tonnes remains the largest barge built in New Zealand and “Sea-Two 25” the largest and most powerful tugboat.The owners of the company, Pat Ganley and Kelvin Hardie, have each had in excess of 40 years experience and Pat has in addition to building and repairing vessels , owned his own coastal and international tug and barge operations.During 2004 the company was restructured. Additional machinery was purchased and the design and building of towing and anchor handling winches together with other deck machinery was added to the companies production capabilities.
