Sold 2001 to SS plc at the end of 2013, which left me with a building business and an IT company, Actual Virtual Ltd, run by Simon, one of my sons. Using the same strategy as 2001 had with semiconductors, Actual Virtual has established newest technologies, and innovative suppliers introducing truly innovative products to forward looking customers. Targeting virtualisation markets Actual Virtual has established a unique distribution operation and added key suppliers such as LG Electronics, ATrust and NComputing. Tough to leave 2001 after 25 years but the time was right. Set up 2001 Electronic Components back in 1988 to concentrate on advanced semiconductor design projects and sales in the UK. Although the UK electronics market has struggled to compete with China of late, 2001 and several of the other group activities have performed well and established several strong brands.The Advanced European enterprise and the acquisition of Fintronic Oy have further strengthened the overall activity.Prior to Starting 2001, I worked for the Newey and Eyre group as MD of their BA Electronics subsidiary.Like many individuals in the industry, I learned my trade at Texas Instruments (Bedford) for 9 years.Working for a big, arrogant American giant like TI was superb experience!
