Overseeing Medway Council’s Youth Service, with responsibility for a budget of close to £ 1 million per year, twelve full-time staff and a further 30 full-time equivalent part-time and volunteer youth workers. Developing joint work with the internal and external partners and managing significant changes in the service. these changes include leading a staff reorganisation in 2017-18 and merging four charity sector management committees to found Young Medway as a Young People’s Foundation Trust, which supports communication, collaboration, and coordination between local cross-sector youth organisations in 2021. Led work attracting external investment for projects including improving employability, tackling the exploitation of young women and girls, extending detached youth work, mental health participation, and creating a hospital-based reachable moments project. Developed new strategies for youth participation, with the service receiving flagship status using the NYA’s Hear by Right tool in 2019. Led the redevelopment and chairing of Medway Children’s Services Service Manager’s Forum, as well as cross-service work to improve the quality of direct work and participation across teams.

Rochester, United Kingdom

Managing youth work in the West Area of Medway. This involved staff and budget management, as well as overseeing the planning, reporting and development of work across urban and rural areas. Leading the development of a successful European funding bid via Interreg IVa, which resulted in 1 million Euros of funding for Medway over three years, offering cross border youth work programs in music, cookery and mechanics. Improving youth facilities by obtaining further funding from sources including the Police and Crime Commissioner, Extended School and Public Health to set up a climbing wall at Strood Youth Centre and developing music based programmes at both the Woodies and Strood Youth Centres, which enabled more young people to take part in live performances and to create music in a studio environment.

Chatham, Kent

Street based work with young people aged 13-19, engaging them in informal and community education around sexual health and relationships; drugs and alcohol awareness; careers work; personal safety and political education. This work was predominantly in areas of social deprivation and often with young people associated with anti-social behaviour. It required close work with other agencies, such as the Police, Health Services, Schools and other community organisations to engage young people as part of their community and work with them to develop projects around their ideas, needs and wishes.

Organising holiday play schemes for young people aged 4-16 across Medway. Schemes would run in six sites during half terms and Easter and twelve during the Summer holidays. This role involved training development, ordering equipment, recruiting staff, site visits, inspections and post scheme evaluation and reporting.
