• Manage staff of six investigators and two assistants plus support staff during scheduled shifts.• Assign cases to investigators on duty, and provide supervision on high profile cases. Answer any questions that arise about proper procedures or protocols. • Work in conjunction with law enforcement officials, pathologists, attorneys, family members of victims, funeral directors, and hospital staff.• Conduct over the phone interviews and generate inquest reports with all hospitals and nursing home facilities in Harris County in order to authorize the release of decedent.• Review medical charts for information significant for the case being worked. • Answer and record all death calls and prepare written and verbal reports in accordance to Texas Code of Criminal Procedures 49.25.• Conduct on scene physical examinations of remains, document scene by taking photographs and generating written reports. • Provide detectives on scene with real-time preliminary medicolegal findings about the decedent. • Maintain and manage proper evidence collection by packaging, sealing, and labeling evidence to ensure the chain of custody. • Supervise to ensure proper removal and transportation of remains to H.C.M.E.• Explain investigative findings to pathologists, police, and families.• Locate and notify next of kin about deaths and identify unknown remains.• Testify in court proceedings regarding investigation, observations, and documentation procedures at the scene.
