Provide advice and guidance to Line & other Managers dealing with issues affecting the well-being of staff, including matters relating to the management of absences that involve sickness, stress, injury or disability.Develop and maintain appropriate specialist knowledge, networks and relationships with external organisations, medical/health professionals, and other relevant agencies, and maintain up to date knowledge of the welfare discipline. Represent the Company on various groups and committees and endeavour to raise welfare issues as part of the agenda.Raise awareness of welfare issues within the Company’s employment, and advise Head of Human Resources on all matters relating to the welfare function. Carry out research and surveys in order to identify areas of difficulty or generic concerns or need within the Company’s service, and identify strategies for managing such issues.Assist with arrangements for procuring and/or delivering welfare training, including stress awareness/management training, and will identify sources of specialist support through statutory and voluntary agencies. Carry out other duties which are consistent with the overall purpose of the post and which may be reasonably assigned to it.

The overall purpose of the job is to assist in the efficient and effective management of the daily operation of the Traffic function at Depot level across the operational day, ensuring that the company's business objectives and standards of customer service and operational quality are achieved. To specify objectives and set clear standards for the expected work performance of all operational staff, with particular emphasis on developing and maintaining a strong focus on customer relationships and operational quality.To provide strong pro-active leadership to the staff under his/her control by means of encouragement, motivation and effective use of the company’s procedures.To maintain the highest possible standards of work performance amongst the staff under his/her control by monitoring and effectively controlling attendance, accidents, absenteeism, sickness etc.To liaise with the planning scheduled officer on operational requirements and to assist in the preparation of duties and rotas to ensure the efficient and effective cover of work.To ensure that at times, sufficient staffs are available to meet the operational commitment and quality standards of the depot and the allocation and deployment of such staff is at the minimum cost achievable.To recruit and train sufficient staff to meet the depot staffing requirements at all times and to ensure that these staff receive comprehensive, detailed and ongoing training to enable them to carry out their duties and responsibilities in a professional manner to the standards required by the company.
