Hi, I’m Royal Brooks. I was raised in Flint, MI, trained in aviation in the US Marine Corps. Over the last 30 + years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the growth of an enormous industry, and the technologies that are used to provide a safe and efficient air transportation system. I started my aviation career in organizational maintenance at Marine Corps Air Station, MAG 31, Beaufort, SC where I spent three years as an aircraft structural mechanic before I transitioned over to the civilian side of aviation. The time as a production line worker on the B-2 Stealth Bomber helped me to really understand the production process and better to educate others on the advanced nature of aircraft manufacturing processes. During my 10 years with this manufacturer I learned a lot about Planning, Scheduling, Budgeting, Designing, Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Procurement and Communications. My experience there set me apart with the well-rounded knowledge of the entire Aircraft Manufacturing Process. Most recently I’ve attempted to find a path that would allow economically deprived communities like Flint, MI to share in the growth of aviation manufacturing. I believe the Department of Transportation’s highly automated vehicles (HAVs) program is just the path needed to be taken to lift this and other community’s up and provide long sustainable growth.
