I worked for a great company owner, Mark Schoenfelder, and had enjoyable co-workers. But I knew something was missing as my heart just wasn't in it anymore. I also knew that I would be spending the better part of a week in June in Reno and I was committed to taking my son, Reed, to Las Vegas for 3 weeks in July for the Jr. Gold Bowling Tournament. (One of two tournaments that determines Jr. Team USA). Knowing that I would miss some of the prime sales weeks of the year, I just didn't feel that was fair to Mark or our painters that depended on me for their work. So after some careful consideration, I respectfully turned in my resignation. Now over the last 8 months I have been working - just not my customary work. I am fortunate enough to be able to work for J & J Bowling Center. It is owned by Jerry Kes and I can't thank him enough for allowing me to work and fulfill my prior commitments. I also keep myself busy by being 1) head coach of the Faribault High School Bowling Team (I'll post more on that after we win the State Championship in December), 2) Conference Coordinator of the South Central Conference of MN High School Bowling, 3) Youth League Coordinator of J & J Bowling Center, and 4) Co-director - Southern MN Jr. Traveling Tournament.When I was in my mid-twenties I decided upon my life goal: to retire and become a professional volunteer.It suddenly hit me about three weeks ago. I had achieved my life goal - albeit about twenty years too early! And I haven't enjoyed rest - volunteering is hard work.
