I am a people-person (I know it’s an overused buzz word, but it fits…). I connect easily with people on all levels, be it Mr. or Mrs. CEO or Frank and Emma, the custodians. I do this with a strong handshake, constant eye contact, and a desire to humanize the person with whom I am dealing. As a Provider Relations Representative, I strive to become the subject matter expert to impart that knowledge to the providers and staff for which I am responsible. They then receive the compensation deserved for the work performed while ensuring patients receive the best quality care possible. As a Provider Relations Representative with Aetna, I was assigned a provider with multiple offices outside of my territory because the current representative and the office manager were unable to work together. I was able to sit down with the office manager and understand her frustrations and issues with claim resolution. I showed her in the company manual and the Medicaid manual how her billing practices were flawed. She greatly appreciated the manner in which I educated her, leaving her dignity intact, by coming across as an advocate. She then submitted her corrected claims and I was able to walk them through the resubmission process. Not all were payable, but she appreciated the lesson and assistance greatly. We remain friends to this day.My relationship building skills served me well at KidsCare Therapy, too, not only in dealing with the payers in trying to get our money, but also in managing my staff. I treated my staff as people and not objects. We had fun together, but we also got the work done, to the tune of less than ½ of 1% of write-offs on multimillion dollar billing. I don’t share these things to impress you, ok, ok, actually, I do. The above scenarios are more than me just ‘doing my job’. I connected on a personal level with my providers and my staff, in the course of doing my job, but the extra mile was me being me (as no one else can be…).Try me! You will like me!
