As Assistant Corporate Controller my responsibilities included managing the cash activities and borrowings for Lund ($100+ million). When we began to experience rapid growth through acquisitions, my duties became more intense and interesting. Each subsidiary brought its own benefits and needs to the organization, and maintaining the optimal cash position for each business unit and Lund as a whole was a daily achievement. I also prepared cash flow forecasts to assist with anticipating the cash needs of Lund.Along with the daily cash duties, I prepared the monthly bank covenant report and submitted it to our lending institution. Detailed knowledge of our credit agreement was crucial to completing the report accurately. Periodically the lending institution conducted an extensive on-site audit of the report. It was my responsibility to act as liaison to the auditors.I also supervised our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments (staff of 4 employees). Month-end close duties were another time sensitive requirement of my job. The overall intent was to bring the accounting system up to date so that accurate financial data could be provided to upper management in a timely manner. I consistently met these deadlines. As audit liaison I provided support and assistance during the financial audit. I facilitated and communicated requests for information, often working with other departments to achieve results. The tasks and projects that I undertook as Assistant Corporate Controller were not always clear cut in nature. With the acquisition of subsidiaries and rapid growth, the constantly changing work environment at Lund negated any established method of accomplishing duties. I achieved the necessary results first by gaining an understanding of the issue at hand, and then by utilizing the available resources. Overall I found adaptability to be sometimes challenging, always rewarding, and necessary for growth.

Many people have outside interests, but few are given the opportunity to employ their skills and talents to help others. As an instructor in the Machine Tool Technology program, I taught evening classes two, sometimes three nights a week. A challenging set of skills were required to perform my duties. My students varied in age, gender, ethnic background, and educational level. While my technical knowledge and abilities came naturally, I found new objectives in communication, problem-solving, personal interaction, motivation, and helping others measure progress and achieve their goals. My skills utilized for this job included supervision, communication, classroom instruction, problem solving, group leadership, and motivating others.

My position as Controller and Vice President offered an excellent opportunity to develop my skill set and expand my experience. Along with accounting operations, I supervised the loan operations department and the bookkeeping department. I was also responsible for both internal and external financial reporting, audit liaison, and maintaining the general ledger. The most difficult, and fascinating, responsibility of my position was financial modeling and interest rate margin analysis. It was here that I came to understand the dynamic nature of the bank's assets and liabilities. Through the modeling and projection process, I identified potential threats to the bank's overall interest rate margin. I also identified opportunities to improve the margin. Providing the results to management in a succinct and actionable manner was crucial.
