I managed the ERDF Project the "Institute for Advanced Manufacturing". The project helped East Midlands companies to improve their business by considering issues in Precision Manufacturing. I was supported by state of the art precision manufacturing equipment and expertise in this role.

Managing the ERDF funded S2B Hub was a lot of fun and I'd liked to thank all of my colleagues at Teesside (especially my team, Stephen Oyston, Simon Magson and Reba Yuille) for the support they gave me and laughs we had. Working in the North East was a new experience and I was treated very warmly. I've made a lot of freinds and contacts from companies that we worked with and partners from the region's Universities. The diversity of the work we carried out to help companies was incredible! I can't give too much away on a public site here are some examples. Whilst this included literature searches to propose alternative materials and processes, it also encompassed problems as diverse as; replacement of increasingly expensive filler materials whilst maintaining material properties, sound attenuation on newly developed plant, comparison of degradation of plastic filters in aggressive chemical environments, investigation of rheological models for plastics injection moulding die design, reverse engineering, detecting faults in pipelines and devising reproducible retardant burn tests for plaster board.

Project Manager (of consortium)PEPTFlow - The PEPT-Flow project applied the flow analysis technique of positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) to the investigation of polymer flow and mixing behaviour within industrial twin-screw processes, determining the influence of machine design, process operation and polymer system.Ecosam - The development of a novel hexavalent chrome-free environmentally sustainable pre-treatment for plastic surfaces using molecular self-assembly nanotechnology. Project Manager (on behalf of Smithers Rapra)CustomIMDManager of Materials workpackage and medical protocols work package. The project provided a new concept in customised implant production. Designed, manufacture, sterilisation and delivery within a target timeframe of 48 hours of medical implants, fitting the specific needs and physical characteristics of each patient.
