About Roy Huzzard

Roy retired this year! Roy is a Chartered Scientist through the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining with 20 years experience in process engineering, specialising in materials science. He has subsequently project managed a number of strategic, technical projects on behalf of Universities and research organisations, specifically involving knowledge transfer to SMEs. More recently, Roy has focussed on supporting companies to maximise their R&D Tax Credit claims, where his extensive industrial processing and materials experience, together with his understanding of the needs of SMEs have proven invaluable.     Managing the ERDF funded S2B Hub was a lot of fun and I'd liked to thank all of my colleagues at Teesside (especially my team, Stephen Oyston, Simon Magson and Reba Yuille) for the support they gave me and laughs we had. Working in the North East was a new experience and I was treated very warmly. I've made a lot of freinds and contacts from companies that we worked with and partners from the region's Universities. The diversity of the work we carried out to help companies was incredible! I can't give too much away on a public site here are some examples. Whilst this included literature searches to propose alternative materials and processes, it also encompassed problems as diverse as; replacement of increasingly expensive filler materials whilst maintaining material properties, sound attenuation on newly developed plant, comparison of degradation of plastic filters in aggressive chemical environments, investigation of rheological models for plastics injection moulding die design, reverse engineering, detecting faults in pipelines and devising reproducible retardant burn tests for plaster board.
