Founder And Owner And Executive ProducerSeed Media ArtsChicago, Il, Us -
Founder / Owner / Executive ProducerSeed Media Arts Feb 2012 - PresentChicago, Il, UsAfter 20+ yrs of running several highly successful production entities, I saw the business was changing and I envisioning a new more streamlined model for the production business. I sold my two companies to seek a much more flexible business model. I had a vision of a production entity low in overhead and high in creative excellence. I teamed up with young talented individuals and expanded my commercial and content creation / production entity, Seed. Seed was originally famous for pioneering early "branded content" like Bud.TV and other clients wanting web content, episodic films and viral work. We are now a hybrid content and commercial production / ideation company with award-winning, savvy directors. It worked ...and most importantly, we still all have fun. -
Ep / Head Of SalesA For Ox - Denmark Jun 2022 - Jun 2023Taking on a partner at Seed last year has allowed me to contract with A for Ox for a year. They are a Danish design and animation company that wants to expand into the US. I got them a rep and we did 4 jobs in 5 months...boom Launched! I have successfully represented numerous animation companies throughout my years in the business, most notably PIXAR, and Colossal Pictures ...and I also founded and eventually sold Transistor Studios, who are still active today.

Founder/Cmo/Managing DirectorBackyard Productions Jun 2018 - Jan 2021Los Angeles, Ca, UsIn Chicago, in 1988, while still repping print and high-end production companies as an agent through Skillicorn Associates, I created Backyard in Chicago, as a 'local' supplement to my roster. Tony D'Orio was starting to direct and we were partners. It grew very rapidly and I closed Skillicorn Associates to focus fully on Backyard and took on another partner. During my tenure, Backyard was considered the “Shangri-La" of production, delivering a thoroughly enjoyable experience, infused with engaging and dependable people with caring attitudes, while offering innovation and craftsmanship at the highest levels. After years of representing top-tier companies I deliberately crafted it so... and after selling the company in 2011, I was hired back to lead the company's sales and guide it like I did during its most successful years. Back in the day, it was a $50M/yr entity and was considered one of the top 20 international production companies in the trades. Furthermore, it was and may still be the only one to ever spring forth from any secondary market like Chicago. After selling, I soon realized further success with another start-up, the award-winning Seed Media Arts. The newest owner of Backyard asked me to come back to the company in 2017. “Skillicorn is internationally known for his innovative, focused marketing strategies and his unprecedented trendsetting business models. He has an uncanny ability to remain highly relevant throughout a long and prosperous career,” says Kevin Allodi. “His track record for nurturing the development and growth of directors’ careers is unsurpassed; as Managing Director overseeing sales & marketing I see him as the perfect ‘Sherpa’ to lead Backyard and its directors to new heights.” -
FounderBackyard Productions 1988 - 2011Los Angeles, Ca, Us"I started Backyard with a photographer/director friend Tony D'Orio in Chicago, while I was still a rep for huge production entities In LA and San Francisco back in 1988. My wife and I named the company, and designed the iconic shadow puppet logo, all our ads, promotions, and we conceived many of the famous (and infamous) parties, events, dinners and bashes for 22 years. I led the company's marketing, sales and PR by strategizing from the trenches, not from some ivory tower. Thus, we became and remained the only company from a secondary market to be consistently recognized within the top 20 production companies throughout the 90's and early 2000s. Though I moved the company to LA, I personally remained in Chicago by design. Managing the company from Chicago defied conventional thought, but it worked. By my staying in the midwest, it served to underline the company's most important uniqueness: our honest, hard-working, good-natured, midwestern work ethic and personality. I am proud that I was able to bring two of my students from my teaching days into prominence, making one of them my partner, the other a major world-class director. I'm proud that we developed most of our directors from scratch and that they stayed on top for so long. I'm delighted that most of our reps, the ones I groomed from novices, have all gone on to reach great heights in the industry and that so many our directors, producers, secretaries, assistants and even PA's, who got their start with us, have also reached the top of their chosen professions. Back in the 90's, Backyard became the 'creative' brand that my wife, my business partners, and I personally envisioned, promised, promoted and delivered upon. Backyard grew into a multi-million enterprise and was, for a time, a production paradise that clients sought. It was and now is an unpretentious, fair, and honest place that I had hoped it could be. I feel very fortunate to have lived and shared it." -
Co FounderTransistor Studios Jan 1995 - 2010Brooklyn, New York, UsFrom his 15 years establishing several animation company through representing PIXAR and Colossal Pictures, Roy sought an animation partner for Backyard Productions. He found Bruce Alcock, a Canadian animator. Together they started Backyard Animation in Chicago then later changed its name to Tricky Pictures. They brainstormed to find a term to describe what his work was about and market it. The term "Motion Design" was decided upon and they put out thousands of post cards describing what it meant: Art that moved. The term caught on and today everyone refers to it by that name. Tricky thrived doing high end work for blue chip clients. After several successful years Bruce felt the need to move back to Canada. Roy elevated two of the staff to animators and renamed the company "Transistor Studios". In 2011, Roy sold both Backyard and Transistor to its employees. -
Head Of Sales - North AmericanPassion Pictures 1990 - 1994London, England, GbAfter PIXAR became focused only on features, Roy stepped away and was immediately asked to become the Head of Sales in North America for London-based, PASSION PICTURES, at the time, an unknown entity. He help lunch them by setting up US and Canadian representation while finding the best opportunities himself. Needing to focus all of his attention on Backyard he relinquished his role in the mid 1990's. Today Passion is internationally-renowned, and Oscar winning. Ironically for several yeas, Roy's son Nathan Skillicorn represented them through his work with Free Agents. -
Owner / Talent Agent/ Artist'S Representative.Skillicorn Associates 1976 - 1990- PIXAR Brought in their very fist revenue from Leo Burnett. (9 years) - HKM Brought in their their very fist revenue. (12 years )- Colossal Pictures (11 years)- numerous photographers, illustrators, graphic designers and fine artists. (15 years)- several music companies and individual composers. (6 years)Artist's agent/promoter for multiple print, design, film and animation companies. Secured assignments for numerous start ups that soon became giants in the industry. I unknowingly became the nation's very first "independent film representative" just thinking it a good idea to rep several production companies at the same time, not knowing it had never been done. Independent reps today are a mainstay in the production business. I also gained a lot of attention for introducing the concept of the "vignette" style commercials (where people didn't talk or sell). Graham Henman (the H in HKM), literally brought the idea to the USA from London. Vignettes today are an important genre in films, content and commercials.
