My job, described in a nutshell, is to make sure the money going into or out of a savings or checking account is genuine. Breaking open that shell, my job requires a few things to be done successfully. One of those things is examining the checks and deposits that have been flagged to see if there is anything wrong. Often, everything is perfectly fine; until it is not. Some checks are clearly fraudulent in nature whereas other checks require more research into the respective customer’s account to determine if the customer wrote it. Another thing necessary is having a great relationship with our branches. This is critical as the staff at these branches know their customers very well and understand the steps necessary to help the affected customer. We also rely on them to alert the team I am on when a customer’s transacting behavior changes. It was an interesting road getting to where I am at. My first official job as a college graduate was a contract job working as a Closing Specialist working at Solidifi. Then, I transitioned to a tax processor at KPMG, which was also a contract job. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as COVID shut down the country. While everyone slowly went back to work, whether in office, remote, or hybrid, I was still looking for work. I applied to the Items Processor position at Washington Trust and got the position. I was thrilled! From there, transitioned into a Deposit Operation Specialist role. It was in this position where I developed my knack for noticing when things were off with checks. It did not go unnoticed as I was offered a position within the corporate security side of compliance. I have been in this position for a little over a year and have enjoyed every minute of it. When I am not at work, I can be found at a bowling alley a few nights a week, out and about with my friends, or at home recharging my batteries.
