“Make it matter. And I didn’t just mean making it matter in combat...be there for someone, help someone. That’s making it matter too - if you can go through life and make something matter for someone other than yourself every day. Then in the aggregate of your life, you’re going to make a big difference. And if you can do that, you’ll be the leader we need you to be.’~General Martin Dempsey USMA ‘74 address to West Point cadets, faculty, staff, and guests on September 20, 2019I read General Dempsey’s words in the Winter 2020 edition of the West Point magazine and they caused me to pause and reflect on past accomplishments and challenges. My hope is that what I’ve done in the past lives up to the ultimatum set forth by General Dempsey, and I hope the words also cause you to pause and reflect, and also act as a source of inspiration. In my current position as a Leadership Gifts Officer, I'm afforded the opportunity to support West Point and the Long Gray Line through donor support. I meet with West Point supporters to learn more about them and determine if our cause might be a good fit for them, from a philanthropic perspective. I help them plan out their gifts and the impact they want to make for our West Point Cadets, the Long Gray Line, and the United States Military.
