My research interests are focused on understanding the utilization of natural carbon sources by fungi and using this knowledge for biobased applications of fungi. My research addresses extracellular enzymes, regulators and metabolic pathways involved in biomass conversion by fungi and heavily involves functional and comparative genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. Ongoing projects involve both fundamental research and applied research covering a wide range of topics (see projects).In recent years I have expanded my direct interactions with companies though projects and consultancy, both within my position at Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute and outside.
