I also ran a basic science laboratory focused on novel therapies targeting signaling modulated by SPRY proteins. I held several leadership positions at the KU Cancer Center, including Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office and co-leader of the Drug Discovery, Development, and Experimental Therapeutics Research Program; I also led the subcommittee that defined scientific and research initiatives for the Cancer Center's 2012-2017 strategic plan. In addition, I was the inaugural Medical Director of the KU Clinical Research Center (CRC), a freestanding 82,400 square foot facility housing a dedicated Phase I Oncology unit, GLP-compliant bioanalytical facility, NIH/NCATS CTSA-funded Clinical Translational Science Unit (CTSU; previously General Clinical Research Center, or GCRC), NIH Alzheimer's center, regional oncology education and research network, and associated research support staff. Under my leadership, patient visits to the oncology early phase unit grew by an annual average of 42%, from 2012-2015.
