Good question!The term incorporates many elements associated with the theatrical arts. A theater practitioner could be an actor, a director, a designer, a dramatist, a writer, a composer, or a combination of these and other roles that are traditionally separate within showbiz.Many artists wear this hat at times in their career, perhaps without knowing it. It’s often the case that to mount a production individuals go beyond narrowly defined job descriptions to get the job done. Some do it out of necessity when working within a small budget whilst trying to premiere a new production. Others, like Roland, enjoy the flexibility of being able to move between disciplines which leads to a varied and exciting career.Roland is especially interested in the “Golden Age” of entertainment and has performed cabaret delighting with popular song, jazz standards and musical theater. In particular, his cabaret compilations “Great American Songbook”, “Musical Theater Memory Lane” and “Noël & Cole” have been popular with cruise liner clientele. Roland’s hallmark is a polished, upmarket offering, presented in a relaxed and informal manner. As leading man Roland appeared in various musical productions and has sailed the high seas as performer for TUI Cruises and Noble Caledonia. Roland has also written book, music and lyrics for a number of chamber musicals alongside some fantastic dramaturgs; with the development of new musical theater writing being one of his pursuits. Roland ranks himself amongst those fortunate people who live and work at the thing they most love.
