I work on all things data to help support Rent.’s frontend products and services including apartmentguide.com and rent.com. I primarily write applications in Clojure that deliver data to various functional units across the organization. I work with teams to build out custom Kafka applications that source, sink, enrich, and transform this data in near real time.

I worked on a small team of engineers that developed CareerBuilder's SaaS product for recruiters, CareerBuilder Applicant Tracking. The frontend of this application was written in PHP and JavaScript. The app also used a legacy framework loosely based on Symfony. I would say about half of my time was spent working on this frontend.The second half of my time was spent developing infrastructure to support various features of the Applicant Tracking product. This included developing Clojure and Go microservices that work together to accomplish various tasks. Some of these tasks included enabling applicant searching based on resumes (parsing and indexing), health checking the entire product and reporting outages, providing job feeds to various job boards, and developing tooling for internal customers to assist in maintaining and provisioning new instances of the product. The tooling included developing and maintaining other frontends written in the functional language Elm.Since our team is full stack we also are responsible for our own deployment. We use docker to containerize our apps and we deploy them on CoreOS clusters. We also use Quay.io as a repository and CircleCI for continuous integration.In addition to my responsibilities as a developer, I am very passionate about education and mentoring. I founded and held the role of intern ambassador at CareerBuilder. I worked very closely with all of our technology interns by developing individual relationships to help them become professional software engineers. I also held events such as brown bag lunches where we presented interesting projects we were working on or discussed topics that interested us. I was also, as the title suggests, the representative for the interns to the rest of the business.

I worked with a team to scale and improve an acquired applicant tracking system from a monolithic, un-scaleable LAMP architecture to a micro-services based design pattern using technologies such as Go, Clojure, and Docker.I fully automated the team's testing and deployment process using CircleCI, Docker, and Quay.io. I contributed code adding metrics to the legacy system in PHP and the microservices in Go. The metrics are recorded and reported in near real time using statsd and Datadog. I developed a microservice in Go that interacts with the existing infrastructure to parse resumes into structured data and stores them for retrieval by other services. I translated an existing microservice from Go to Clojure.
