About Adam Hardy
Offering technical expertise in recipe development, innovation commercialization, and manufacturing from a combined 15 years in the consumer goods, paper, and food industries. I excel at bringing new products to life, scaling up recipes for full-scale production, and problem-solving on cross-functional teams.I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with M.S. and B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and started my career with Procter & Gamble in 2011. Within the operations environment of their largest plant in North America, I led initiative delivery, supply chain management, and quality process engineering. In early 2016, I moved to Unilever to their Research & Development team in Food Solutions, based out of the regional headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. As a Senior Engineer and Technical Project Leader, I delivered innovations cross-functionally and managed the product lifecycle on Hellmann's, Best Foods, and Lizano brands. In 2019, I joined Sir Kensington's as their Commercialization Manager. In this role, I managed a team that renovated and improved their line of mayos, salad dressings, and condiments, while introducing new innovations every year. Lastly, in my current role with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, I oversee product development and commercialization for our 60+ scoop shops, 40+ retail skus, and special partnership flavors and activations. I've commercialized commercial successes from Kraft Mac & Cheese and Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream to celeb partnerships such as Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso Ice Cream. I love creating new things and pushing the envelope of what's possible, and remain open to new opportunities that build upon my skillset in flavor development and innovation.

Director Of R&D And Commercialization
I oversee new flavor development for all Van Leeuwen ice cream products, encompassing tubs, pints, novelty bars, and ice cream sandwiches, ranging across dairy and vegan, produced at copackers nationwide. I manage a portfolio of over 90 products for wholesale and scoop shops. We commercialize new flavors for LTOs, new store openings, and brand partnerships. I lead strategic planning and execution around our innovation roadmap, manufacturing network, ingredient evaluations, and last but not least, continuous improvements to taste, quality, and cost. I have commercialized products for partnerships with Drew Barrymore, Sabrina Carpenter, Hello Kitty, Hidden Valley Ranch, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Netflix's Leo and Glass Onion movies, as well as with local NYC Chefs.
R&D Commercialization Manager
I was responsible for the overall end-to-end commercialization of our condiments, dressings, and vinaigrettes across a growing network of 6 third-party co-packers. I managed pilot trials to support commercialization and scale up. I executed continuous improvement projects that improved product stability, reduced waste at production facilities, and explored new technologies and processes for manufacturing. I coordinated PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) of specifications for innovations and renovations, scoped out manufacturing partners to address portfolio extensions and supply chain capacity constraints, and responded to customer quality complaints and managed root cause problem solving with copackers.
Senior Engineer
I brought innovations to market as a Technical Project Leader, garnering strategic alignment among cross-functional stakeholders in Marketing, Supply Chain, Legal, and Regulatory, creating iTO worth $11mn in 2018 YTD. I managed the product lifecycle using SAP PLM for Hellmann’s, Best Foods, and Lizano brands. This included developing new formulas, updating specifications, conducting shelf life studies, and reviewing label artwork. I also coordinated the review and validation for claims, including Gluten-Free, Kosher, and clean label (i.e. No Artificial Colors, Flavors, and Preservatives), and partnered with Sales on new opportunities and in resolving quality complaints.
Process Development Engineer
I delivered the process design and scale up for mayonnaise and salad dressing innovations, worth $3mn in 2017. I led industrial factory trials of new formulas and executed corrective actions to mitigate top risks during project delivery. I developed small-scale trials in the pilot plant and utilized modeling simulations to predict product performance. I also validated changeover procedures and process specifications, and qualified first-time production runs at the plants and 3PMs.
Charmin Initiatives Delivery Leader
I coordinated the overall delivery of new Ultra Soft and Ultra Strong brands at the Mehoopany site. I delivered $2.5mn in savings with an initiative installing new steel-embossed rolls and chemical delivery systems across four converting lines and completed their IQ/OQ/PQ validation. I executed product specifications per technical standards delivered by central R&D and QA while coordinating innovation commissioning and first-time production runs.
Bounty Machine Operations Leader
I led a complex supply chain manufacturing three different Bounty products (Basic, Mainline, and DuraTowel) on the same production line. I managed a team of 18 operators, maintenance, and electricians on this continuous 24/7 process and executed root cause problem solving to eliminate operational losses in cost, quality, and downtime. I oversaw an annual budget of $1.1mn to ensure the safety of personnel, defect elimination, team capability building, and the delivery of improvement projects to the production line.
Papermaking Process And Quality Engineer
I delivered $3mn in savings projects across eight paper machines by qualifying lower cost materials, optimizing centerlines, and installing new equipment in the paper fiber and chemical delivery systems, including the headbox, wire section, and press section of the paper machines. I coordinated brand changes, finished product and raw material holds and releases, quality SOP documentation, change management, and process control target changes. Lastly, I engaged and trained eight team Quality Functional Leaders in my department.
Graduate Reseach Student
I published my master's thesis on experimentation with triblock copolymers, analyzing the rheological characteristics of Pluronic gels in solution at different temperatures and concentrations to develop more effective DNA separation via CE-SSCP (Capillary Electrophoresis - Single Strand Conformational Polymorphism). I worked in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology under Dr. Chang Y. Ryu on a collaborative project with POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) and spent the summer of 2010 in Pohang, South Korea, collaborating with researchers there.
Air Separation And Combustion Intern
I worked in the Air Separation Unit department to develop product audits, which optimized the capture and re-use of large air separation equipment for cost savings. I also completed a project in the new Clean Energy Combustion Lab being built that summer to create standard operating procedures for use once it became operational.
Resins Manufacturing Intern
I coordinated and executed several tank inspections that summer and worked with contractors and site engineers to install a new reactor baffle and safety showering equipment within the resin manufacturing department.
