In the fall of 2008 I began working part-time in the Cleveland Fed’s Research Department. The position allowed me to learn new and relevant data analysis techniques in the statistical packages SAS and Stata, including multivariate regression modeling. I became closely familiar with data from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and other data sources mined using software from Haver Analytics.

I managed the candidate database for a leading executive search firm. During my internship I doubled the size of the company’s candidate database.

In early 2008 I took a semester off from college to pursue an internship with Southwest Airlines in Dallas, Texas. During my five months with the company, I investigated and followed leads for business travel accounts and provided account management to existing clients. I gained valuable exposure to airline management and operations, distributed over one thousand sports, concert, and special event tickets to leverage relationships with clients, and arranged and executed strategic barters between Southwest Airlines and other companies. The internship was a fantastic experience.

The following summer, I transitioned to a role in Group Sales department. I oversaw all aspects of groups’ visits including admission, catering and event set-up, and I focused on selling Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom as an affordable, family-friendly vacation destination.

My first internship during college. I was responsible for planning promotions, escorting media, distributing direct-mail promotions and writing press releases. I oversaw the planning for Oktoberfest event by researching and booking 12 polka bands, organizing wine tasting and beer school, and hiring a wood carver and polka dance teacher.
