At Alinsco, I work as a Lead Software Engineer with a small team that supports all our back-office policy management, claims, and marketing applications. I was hired as part of an effort to modernize the company's dated - but trusted - legacy .NET Framework WebForms application.It has been an incredibly enjoyable challenge to take an enormous, tightly coupled, legacy application that has provided the company many years of reliable service and move it piece by piece to a cloud-based distributed architecture in AWS. I’ve been given the opportunity to work with stakeholders to explore and rediscover the boundaries of the company’s core business domains and then design and implement distributed, containerized services along with their associated testing, deployment, and runtime infrastructure in a Kubernetes hosted environment.To successfully perform my responsibilities at the company, I’ve become a perpetual student and practitioner of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-sourcing methodologies to build back-end applications that are extremely resilient and encapsulate business logic in a way that is performant, but also easy to reason about and maintain. I am extremely fascinated and intrigued by good design, and I’m always looking for ways to make things better!While my focus and strengths are in backend development, I’m no stranger to frontend work at the company either. I lead the development of a new end-user application that utilizes Vue.js as well as other applications that use modern .NET MVC technologies. I’m constantly looking into and developing proofs-of-concepts for ways we can start to incorporate Microsoft’s newest Blazor technology to start modernizing our applications as well.

With PSI, I was involved in the execution of many different projects. I served as Project Manager and Project Engineer for In-Line Inspections (ILI), Horizontal Directional Drills, and Tank API 653 Out-of-Service Inspections and Repairs with project budgets exceeding $1M. I've also performed supporting roles on many pump/compressor station modifications, pipeline construction projects, and integrity management projects with budgets ranging from $20K to $1M. I directed teams in conducting detailed engineering analysis and fitness-for-service analysis on several ILI data logs, utilizing statistical methods and industry best practices. With these assessments, I created full validation and repair programs for the client. In multiple cases, I was able to assess the data and help the client identify and repair highly critical pipeline corrosion anomalies that were likely to fail. This was invaluable for the integrity of their assets.While I’ve certainly acquired a considerable amount of oil & gas engineering experience with PSI, I was also able to use my personal interests to make the company more effective through software development. I created multiple complex Excel VBA applications for many different engineering needs in the company and for clients. These tools included design pressure calculators, beam design worksheets, in-service line lowering calculators, and others that are still being used today. I also have experience writing Python scripts for complex data analysis on ILI the tool data. I was given the opportunity to lead a small software development team in the coordination, design, and implementation of the company’s time tracking software application. This application consists of a SQL Server backend with a WPF C# frontend. To my knowledge, parts of the application are still used by the company to manage employee time entries, track billing metrics, and generate invoice reports.
