Although my primary role remained the same, I was inducted into Dell’s Technical Leadership Community (TLC). This resulted in added responsibilities in terms of thought leadership and mastery of technology domains. As a TLC project, I identified areas of improvement across organizations and developed documentation and training materials to address this need.

By 2021, I was acting purely as architect and subject matter expert. This solution has permeated most of Dell client software development teams, including the CTO research teams, and is installed in over 60 million PCs. I had to become familiar with most of Dell’s client software solutions, their architects and development teams. This was an opportunity to broaden my influence across various organizations by reviewing other architect’s designs and their solutions as well as imparting best practices into the development teams. Joined a security software product development team which needed research and development expertise for advanced features of Dell Data Guardian (DDG), a data-in-motion encryption product. Employed DLL injection and API hooking techniques to apply data leakage prevention (DLP) features to 3rd party applications protected by DDG. Technologies included full volume encryption, pre-boot authentication, biometric authentication, integration with 3rd party anti-virus and anti-malware products, management of Windows Bitlocker and management and auditing capabilities through a centralized server. Responsibilities included:- Participating in architectural and implementation design meetings.- Mentoring of developers during the implementation stage.- Assisting in the decision-making process as it relates to dealing with customer issues.- Assisting in the design and implementation of a new build system.- Identifying weaknesses in our product and triggering efforts to remedy the issues.- Assisting with QA planning efforts related to new test cases and in general troubleshooting of our product.- Participating in the code-review process for significant changes to our codebase.- Developing a software lifecycle process to increase the robustness and stability of our product. - Participating in the triage process for all incoming defects and enhancement requests.- Participating in the task breakdown process during the planning stages of feature work.- Assisting in the design of application interfaces between my teams and our third parties.- Assisting the project manager in project planning, sprint planning and status reporting. - Carrying out regular 1-on-1 meetings with my direct reports, mentored them with career planning and provided annual performance reviews. During this time period, I was given the opportunity to move to a new product line (DDP Security Tools, DDP Encryption & DDP Endpoint Security Suite) which was still in its infancy. I was tasked with team leadership and heading the hiring of a new team to be dedicated to these products. This project consisted of Windows client-side development of encryption & authentication products in C#/C++. I would eventually manage an extended version of this team.
