Zilico Limited (incorporated in Feb 2006) has developed electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to provide an accurate real-time diagnosis of tissue changes from normal to stages of pre-cancer and then cancer. Appointed by the lead shareholder with a brief to commercially take the business forward.ZedScan™ (generation 1, MVP) was launched in 2014 after receiving its regulatory approval and has been adopted across several NHS hospitals. The first application of EIS is in cervical cancer. ZedScan is a disruptive product within the pathway. There is an exciting pipeline of other products in oral, anal, and oesophageal cancer as well as an intra-operative surgical device to determine tissue margins.The most recent publication on 5,200 women across 25 centres in 9 different countries shows that ZedScan helps detect more disease across the different settings. ZedScan detects between 50%-70% more high-grade disease within the low-grade referrals, the group that is most challenging for clinicians. Overall, there was a 24% better detection rate with ZedScan than the incumbent visual diagnosis.Launching a medical product is multi-faceted requiring planning over several years and executing the strategy within an ever-changing ecosystem.

Joined Plasso Technology from inception. Plasso was a technology company developing the next generation of research tools for the life sciences. Plasso developed coatings to satisfy the new and growing demand for advanced surfaces in the life sciences including life science research, diagnostics and biosensor segments. De-risked the technology by scaling the process and launching our first product, Epranex.In May 2007 Plasso Technology was acquired by Becton Dickinson Inc., a major life sciences company with revenues of $5 Billion in 2006. Plasso’s products featured in the “Bio Coat” brand of products from BD Inc, recently acquired by Corning Life Sciences.Key achievements:• Leading a successful exit for Plasso shareholders (3x – 5x) within four years• Developed an exciting pipeline of products including labware for cell biology and glycomics• Reframed business model from selling capital expenditure to one focused on selling high-value-add consumables• Relocating university laboratory to suitable commercial premises demonstrating scale-up of the process• Strengthening the team to 9 people• “Plasso” team became part of BD Inc.

Director Strategy Group - Leveraging Marconi’s shareholding in a technology company called NetDecisions Ltd (now part of Blenheim Chalcot Ventures). This included identifying and facilitating technology solutions within Marconi’s Enterprise Division.HR Dir, S. Europe, Enterprise Division - part of the senior leadership team challenging the status quo and leading the company through a transformative cultural change in Italy, Spain, Portugal and South Africa. Led the people stream for our M&A activity.As part of the management board, helped re-focus the business on core activities and turned the business round from an expected loss to an operating profit of £5M.Also responsible for HR within a global division, Global Managed Services, which employed 700 people. Countries under my responsibility included USA, Ireland, UK, Italy, Germany and Spain. M&A – Co-lead for People Stream, GEC Plc - With the merger of two businesses, GPT (10,000 people) & Marconi Spa (6,000 people), there was a need to integrate to gain value from being one business. My role specifically concentrated on People & Change Management.
