Human Rights & Civil Liberties Advocate & Activist, Visionary Leader & Pioneer, Founder Of StrapStanding Together For The Rights Or All People (Strap) Feb 2011 - Oct 2012Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Usa, And Internationally Via The InternetIn February 2011, I envisioned and launched Standing Together for the Rights of All People (STRAP) at http://on.fb.me/fKhFdv. What started as a volunteer initiative on Facebook quickly grew to a Twitter page and to personal advocacy and activism projects. I created STRAP because I saw a need for better education, research, advocacy and activism in light of the "Arab Spring" and the many ongoing challenges to human rights and civil liberties in the United States and around the world. Through Standing Together for the Rights of All People I seek to support and not replace any existing organizations. I call attention to other causes as I independently research, educate, advocate and do activism for the rights of individuals and populations, domestically and internationally. I focus especially on overlooked religious, ethnic, racial and other minority populations, including sexual and gender minorities. My understanding of civil liberties and human rights centers around all rights mentioned in international human rights charters, which includes such areas as access to health care, clean water, food, shelter, medicine and education as well as the types of freedoms and religious, political and social rights that people typically understand to be "human rights."Since 2008, much of my work internationally has centered around the rights on Iranians. Since early 2011, my focus in the Middle East has expanded to include people affected by the "Arab Spring" and related uprisings, including those in Bahrain, Yemen and Syria. Domestically, I focus on issues related to the rights of people who tend to be disregarded in society, such as the homeless, the underemployed, those without access to health insurance and medical care, people affected by chronic diseases, such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, unaccompanied homeless youth, persons incarcerated and involved with the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems, and the children and families of prisoners.
