Support staff, faculty, and administrators through research-based professional development for diversity and equity. Initiate strategic diversity goals for the university; create and manage the university bias incident reporting system; coordinate the university-wide Higher Education Research Institute Climate Study. Assist with department, college, and school Diversity Action Plans in support of the APU Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer’s vision for diversity. Coordinate, design and facilitate Diversity Ambassador sessions. Oversee programing, monitoring budgets, managing staff, and collaborating with university leaders in casting a vision for diversity initiatives that support inclusive excellence. Collaborate with the Student Center for Reconciliation and Diversity and Graduate/Professional Enrollment and Student Services on undergraduate and graduate student initiatives.

Taught full-time in the Department of Advanced Studies Master’s in Education Program. Taught EDUC 571: Curriculum Foundations and EDUC 589 A and B: Research for Educators, the Resilient Learner and designed course on Cultural Proficiency. Directed MA programs in education for teachers including faculty development curriculum evaluations, program evaluations. Co-led school of education diversity committee including promoting research, evaluation and training among faculty and staff throughout the school of education

Richard S. Martinez, Ed. D., is founder of the Artful Alliance. Richard facilitates groups as they address issues arising from diversity and organizational culture. His experiences in education include classroom teaching; school, district, and county office of education administration; professional development design and facilitation; and university teaching in educational leadership. As an executive director of a center for diversity and equity, he has integrated culturally proficient coaching skills into a higher education diversity professional development program for staff and faculty. He has facilitated nationally on the art of leadership, culturally proficient environments, and transformative approaches to systems change.

Designed, coordinated, and facilitated various leadership programs in the Los Angeles Unified School District, in addition to being an Agency Trainer for Cognitive CoachingSM. Coached principals and leadership teams using research-based best practices of curriculum and instruction. As an agency trainer for coaching, facilitated the Foundation Training for cadres of Mentor Coaches. Coordinated and facilitated the California State Assembly Bill AB75 Leadership seminars for principals and assistant principals in LAUSD. Worked in collaboration with local district superintendents, coordinators, and district personnel in the design and implementation of this statewide leadership program.

Provided executive leadership in the designing, planning, implementation, facilitation, coordination, and evaluation of the Leonard Bernstein Center for Learning’s Artful Learning school reform model. Worked in collaboration with states, local school districts, and counties in the implementation of the New American Schools nationally recognized school reform model throughout the United States.

Provided executive leadership in the designing, planning, implementation, facilitation, coordination, and evaluation of CSLA leadership seminars and programs for K-12 administrators and teacher leaders. Module topics included: diversity sensitive learning environments for powerful student learning, ensuring student results: high-quality, high-impact professional development, curriculum design in a standards-based system, leadership in a standards-based system, forming a learning community, constructing a thinking, meaning-centered curriculum. Worked in collaboration with the RCOE Superintendent in various standards-based regional support initiatives including a regional Leadership Coaching Initiative between RCOE and the University of California, Riverside. Served as the executive leadership liaison between the County Office of Education and the CSLA WestEd office.

Provided administrative leadership in the planning, implementation, management, and coordination of California School Leadership Academy programs for K-12 teacher leaders and administrators. Worked with a statewide design and training team on the implementation of the “Creating a Diversity-Sensitive Environment for Powerful Student Learning” module.
