Creator And Writer: Business Casual Email Column And Radio SpotCrain'S Detroit Business Sep 2003 - Dec 2006Greater Detroit AreaIn late 2003, after spending months looking around the Crain's Detroit Business newsroom and hearing stories from other offices in metro Detroit, it occurred to me that people share a lot of stuff via email that's interesting, thought-provoking, funny and sometimes just plain weird. So why not write an email column that uses these impulses to create a digital community and provides a diversion from all that serious business news. And so I began writing "Business Casual," which appeared in the Crain's daily email Monday through Friday afternoons for more than five years and then three times a week from April to December 2006. In time, the audience grew to include some decision-makers at Health Alliance Plan, which sponsored the daily email and also a thrice-weekly recorded afternoon radio spot on WCSX-94.7 FM. Here are some of the audience comments about the email column:“Bob’s column was a welcomed and anticipated respite from the labor of the day. His writing, his humor and his insight were all truly habit-forming!” “I want my Bob Allen! He’s terrific.” “I work under deadlines, but not a daily deadline.
