About Ravi Shankar Rajaratnam, Phd.

With 24 years of field and leadership-level experience in international development, I have a proven track record of delivering results and enhancing capacities in diverse and complex contexts. I work as an International Consultant attached to the Global Headquarters of Strømme Foundation, a well-reputed Norwegian development organisation. My mandate is to provide technical guidance and support to uplift development approaches and programme models and promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in multiple countries across East Africa, West Africa, and Asia.As a former Regional Strategic Programme Manager for Asia, I strategically directed the Asia Programme Department and Information and Communications Department. I was a member of the Senior Management Team and Regional Leadership Team. I line-managed country leaders in Myanmar and Sri Lanka and technically supervised Bangladesh and Nepal operations. I have also played a key role as Acting Regional Director during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating the transition into the new normal. My core competencies include inclusive leadership, organizational leadership, diversity and inclusion, results-based management, rights-based approach to development, and PMEAL and participatory systems development. I am also a skilled facilitator and trainer, a certified DEI practitioner, and equipped with the skills and tools to foster a culture of DEI in my work.In my PhD, I focused on understanding the multifaceted concept of human dignity while examining its philosophical underpinnings and exploring practical applications by examining how one’s dignity could be violated. I have also explored the nexus between dignity and other major development disciplines such as empowerment, social inclusion, gender equality, peacebuilding, etc.My mission is to contribute to global efforts to eradicate poverty and injustice and promote human rights and dignity.
