Rui S. Ribeiro holds MSc in Biological Engineering (University of Minho, Portugal) and PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering (University of Porto, Portugal). He is a Fulbright Scholar (2022/2023) and member of Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM since 2011 (Postdoctoral Researcher since 2018). In 2014, he was awarded an Individual PhD Scholarship funded by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, with a PhD thesis entitled “Synthesis of hybrid magnetic carbon nanocomposites for catalytic wet peroxide oxidation”. Dr Ribeiro completed his PhD studies in July 2018, having received the highest academic distinction awarded by University of Porto, the Portuguese Chemical Society prize for the best PhD thesis on catalysis, and the prize for the best PhD thesis in the field of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) by the International PhD School on AOPs. Dr Ribeiro already provided sound contributions to the fields of carbon materials and magnetic nanoparticles for environmental remediation, environmental monitoring, and electrochemical energy conversion. His scientific expertise includes the synthesis, functionalization, characterization, and application of several carbon-based materials, including activated carbons, carbon xerogels, carbon nanotubes, graphene derivatives, hybrid magnetic carbon nanocomposites, hollow carbon spheres, carbon black, carbon dots, and catalytic membranes for water treatment in continuous mode of operation, as well as of engineered nanoparticles.Dr Ribeiro co-authored 1 book and 32 articles in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals (>1,280 citations in Scopus and h-index 19), and frequently speaks at international conferences. In fact, he already delivered 9 invited talks at highly regarded international conferences and advanced schools, including 4 keynote lectures (e.g., at “Carbon 2018 – The World Conference on Carbon”). In recognition for his contributions to the field, Dr Ribeiro was appointed as the Portuguese candidate to the 2023 EFCATS Young Researchers Award by the Portuguese Chemistry Society. Moreover, he was recently granted a 6-year Employment Contract under the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus – 5th Edition, by FCT, and selected to serve as Early Career Editorial Board Member with Carbon Trends.
