I ran the Public Sector Services business for IBM Global Business Services in India and South Asia. As a part of my role which had a P&L responsibility, I was responsible for creating and building Public Sector Services business for GBS in India and South Asia. I worked on large and complex IBM led services deals that came with a mix of technologies and multiple funding models spread over several years. Apart from systems integration projects, I got IBM empanelled for 26 mission critical, Smarter Cities consulting projects. This is a visionary program being managed by the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, a USD 90 Bln Government Company set up to accelerate infrastructure creation.

I was responsible for managing Pre-Sales for the Government ISU globally. As a part of this role I supported Latin America, Sub Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, CIS countries, UK, USA and middle east in all their proactive and reactive sales pursuitsSuccessfully spearheaded country entry strategies based on information collected on the Internet and mapping it to the range of TCS solutions and services, particularly in the social sector and citizen services space. Some of the countries where I have done this are Mexico, Dominican Republic, Hungary, Poland, Netherlands, Botswana, Uganda, Vietnam, Philippines, Morocco and EgyptCame up with a model for analysing countries (read- new markets where TCS had no presence) and analysing the local conditions on multiple parameters. The objective of this model was to link findings in target countries to outcomes that could be provided by our frameworks and position a set of frameworks as a part of a Country-Entry strategy. In order to position TCS in the Thought-Leadership space, I and my team created a series of well researched and in-depth Concept Notes that focused on areas such as homeland security, fiscal management of the country, eVoting and IT Support for Commonwealth Games. We then presented these to government leadership. This resulted in significant mind-share for TCS and opportunities to engage early on with clients in large pursuits as well as create compelling consortiums long before the client has even encapsulated requirementsIn our pursuit of developing emerging markets, I provide a single point of contact to associates across the entire Latin America, Sub Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific region for any sales pursuit that they identified or engaged in the public sector space. As a part of this support I was responsible for providing information on capabilities and experience, conducting workshops in these countries, crafting propositions and powering the consultant teams.

Worked on multiple consultancy assignments in India and in other countries.Led an ADB funded project in India called ‘Public Finance Reforms and Institutional Strengthening for the Government of Madhya Pradesh in India’. This was a large intervention involving multiple domestic and International consultants over a period of two years where I worked to implement fiscal reforms, prepare the state for transition to a Value Added Tax system, supported education strategies and harmonised the stamp duty and registration department. Led and managed an ADB funded Treasury Networking Project for the Government of Madhya Pradesh, in India Led a Siebel Implementation project for Quaker Oats, in Chicago where I managed a team of both TCS consultants as well as Quaker Oats employees. This project went on to become a Reference Project for TCS in the CRM space. Did a Business Process Reengineering project for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, in London, as a prelude to systems implementationLed an analysis study for GE in Australia to identify the impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on GE systems, just before GST was implemented in Australia in 2001. My work envisaged conducting Costing and Management Studies across a wide array of industries ranging from mini steel industry, heavy engineering industry to pharmaceuticals. I was a part of the Indian Cost Accounts Service, a Class 1 service in India. As a part of my stint in the Government of India I worked on providing inputs to the government on commodity pricing and tariff management. I also provided decision support to formalize budgetary proposals particularly in the area of Tariff harmonization. My work entailed providing direction for policy formulation by the government. Working in the Central Government of India as a Deputy Director for seven years, has provided me a deep insight into government operation and an appreciation of the constraints in this domain. Coupled with the experience in technology I got later on, it has provided me in depth understanding of how information technology can be used to reach out to the unreached population and alleviate poverty effectively.
