I'm excited to share my experience of my two-month summer internship at the CCMB (The Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology) in Hyderabad from May 15th to July 15th, 2024. This opportunity was truly transformative, as I had the privilege of working on cutting-edge projects under the supervision of Dr. Shrish Tiwari.While at CCMB, I worked on a project titled “Comparative genomics and RNA-seq analysis of rice.” This experience allowed me to develop the skills to analyze whole genome and RNA-seq Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data on the Linux platform. During this period, I learnt to run a pipeline on Galaxy, a web-based analysis platform. I was successful in cataloging simple and structural variants against a rice genome sequence generated in Dr Tiwari’s lab recently. I developed the necessary skills to handle huge amounts of NGS data and run the relevant pipelines in HPC. As a part of my internship period, I also learnt to correlate phenotypic data from a paper with a gene ontology enrichment analysis.

As a 2022 IASc-INSA-NASI Summer Research Fellow at ICMR Mumbai, I delved into groundbreaking projects—locating the genomic position of transcription factor Hox A 10 and exploring in vitro decidualization of endometrial stromal cells. Despite my modest role, this experience enriched my understanding of the research field and honed my proficiency in diverse techniques. Grateful for the opportunity, it marked a significant chapter in my professional and personal development.
