With a background in bio-process engineering (MSc in Biotechnology from Wageningen University) I am focused on the biological processes in waste water treatment. I've been involved in numerous projects concerning conventional treatment ranging from theoretical (modelling based) desktop studies to "hands-on" site support and (professional) development of site staff. Additionally I've had a big part in designing and commissioning dozens of Anammox-based treatment systems in NW-Europe.I enjoy sharing my knowledge as a teacher for Stichting Wateropleidingen where I teach wastewater treatment basics and technology to people employed in the field of water treatment. Finally I am comissioned into the Royal Dutch Army as a reserve officer-specialist (Major, OF-3). I serve in the 1st Civil Military Interaction Command, RNLA. I'm second in command of a unit of approximately 75 specialists in the field of civil infrastructure. 1CMI Command consists of both full time (regular) as well as reserve personnel. My unit provides the army with a "toolbox" containing a very broad range of specialist knowledge about the civil environment. This knowledge spans from basic engineering (example: "how to build a bridge") to the role infrastructure may have in everyday patterns of life.
