With a habilitation in biomedicine from the School of Medicine at the University of Porto and a PhD from the University of Vigo, he is a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Fernando Pessoa. He leads the Biomedical and Health Sciences research unit. He recently launched two advanced research labs at the Fernando Pessoa Hospital, emphasizing molecular pathology, immunology, and molecular medicine. Prof. Fernandes has published extensively, contributed to books, and supervised many theses. He actively participates in funded research projects, including as Principal Investigator, focusing on metabolic and molecular medicine (cancer, diabetes, and obesity). Additionally, he's involved in several academic societies and professional associations related to cancer and diabetes research.
