To combat the environmental variation that climate change and urbanisation are imposing on our cities, natural and urban environments must strike a balance. This balance is tipping in the favour of urbanisation. Considering community concerns and desires, as well as educating people about the importance of nature in an urban setting plays a role in ensuring the perseverance of trees and green space and maintaining that balance.Accordingly, I am investigating the importance of understanding community perceptions, concerns and desires associated with prioritising locations for urban forest implementation. You can plant a tree in a location that will allow it to have maximal environmental, social and physical benefits for the community, but at the end of the day, if the community doesn't want the tree there- it won't last long. My research dissects the issues the community members identify with trees and green spaces, so that these variables can be considered in future projects and trees stay planted.
