May 2014 - Dec 2015

Unsw Vice-Chancellor Research Fellow

Sydney, New South Wales (Nsw), Au

I was a senior research fellow based at the Ramaciotti Centre for Genomics. My research interests during this fellowship have expanded from cardiovascular disease and transcriptomics to systems biology and non-coding RNA species other than microRNA. At the start of this fellowship, I was awarded an NHMRC project grant with A/Prof Julie McMullen to look at transcriptomics of myocardial infarction in a PI3K mouse model. During this fellowship, I have had two of my own functional genomics experiments that resulted in 8 months of maternity leave with my first child and 1 year of maternity leave with my second. Despite the lengthy break, I managed to secure another NHMRC project grant with A/Prof Julie McMullen for 2013-5 and had 9 publications during this time. I am now focussing on using systems biology to address underlying pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease for the remaining term of this fellowship. And just to make it more interesting, I have 73 samples of miRNA-seq data to analyse. My other collaborative projects can be viewed in Research Gate and ORCID and my publication can be viewed in NCBI PubMed and Google Scholar. I remain an active member of AGTA, HBPRCA and ASMR, as well as being part of the UNSW women in research network as a mentor. Written in Oct 2011.
