I am currently a second-year student at the University of Portsmouth pursuing a degree in sociology with criminology. Since beginning my studies at Portsmouth, whilst also maintaining a part-time job at a sweet shop (since 2018), I have developed many transferrable skills. For example, doing team assignments has taught me teamwork and organisational skills, adapting and working around others' schedules to get the work done. As well as this I have also learnt key communication, time management, and the ability to carry out research. This degree continues to make me look differently at the world and how people behave within it, giving me a core understanding of the reasons behind people's views and actions. I hold a particular interest in looking at children/youth and the stigmatisation they receive from the media creating negative views around them, when really the issue lies with deeper social inequalities. So far in my studies I have been awarded very positive feedback and am on track for achieving a 2:1 with career aspirations around social care. My part-time job has also awarded me with many skills including delivering personalised customer service, supervising staff, using my creative skills to dress shop windows, and checking on the welfare of the team. My friends and colleagues would describe me as dedicated to my studies, whilst also being fun and happy. I am always keeping myself busy and am enthusiastic about everything I do.
