Working with a one year contract with the INVESTIGO program, as reasearch assistant on the structural, cellular and molecular alterations that occur due to the retinal degeneration triggered by Retinitis Pigmentosa disease, chronic genetic disease which triggers the progressive loss of cones and rods, producing neurodegeneration of the nervous tissue while producing a proinflammatory response, activating resident microglial cells and producing infiltration of other myeloid cell types. We perform different experiments using cell lines and mice models. Big training in confocal microscopy and bioinformatic analysis of the pictures with LasX sofware and Fiji-ImageJ. Also training in cell and molecular technics as PCR for genotyping of mice lines, cell culture, retina immunostaining and ELISAs. Group leader: Catalina Hernández Sánchez

Researching with the CNIC ACCIONA Scholarship in the Genetic and Molecular Cardiovascular Physiopathology research group of CNIC. The laboratory focuses on studies of the role of lamins type A and progeria in cardiovascular disease (CVD) and aging disorders, focusing on Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria (HGPS) disease, which is caused by a mutation in the gene for Lamin A. We identify systemic and tissue-specific factors and investigate the relative contribution of different cell types in the development of HGPS and associated CVD, and develop and test in preclinical models new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of CVD associated with premature and physiological aging. Investigating new functional foods through the biofortification of vegetable drinks such as soy or flax drinks with high biological activity compounds, through fermentation with various microbiota gut strains of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. Study of the natural bacterial production of riboflavin (vitamin B2), omega 3, lignans and enterolignans and bioactive flavonoids, and biotechnological production by cloning the pathway enzymes genes in lactic acid bacteria strains. Great learning in quality control and auditing based on UNE-ISO standards in surfaces, environments, water, food and cosmetics. Some works carried out were the ELISA technique for immunodetection of allergenic proteins, mycotoxins, corticosteroids and beta-agonists, PCR, antibacterial residues analysis, microbiological analysis of presence/absence and assessment of microbicidal capacity of commercial products.
