Education Leaders of Color is a membership organization dedicated to elevating the leadership, voices and influence of people of color in education and to leading more inclusive efforts to improve education.Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) aims to break through the polarizing divides that have consumed efforts to improve public education. Only by forging a third way can we stem the backlash facing even the most innovative, effective solutions and forge the alliances needed to realize and sustain EdLoC’s vision of providing low-income children of color expansive and substantive opportunities for the highest levels of academic and economic attainment.

Helped school district leaders in Broward County, FL and Providence, RI get more students to and through college as part of a 20-city grant cohort, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Advocating for public education and directing strategic resources and supports to school districts across Maryland, in partnership with civic-minded employers, the public sector, and the foundation community.The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) mobilizes employers and individuals to play an active role in supporting excellence and accountability in education by demonstrating and modeling the connection between achievement in school and success in the workplace. Our mentors and staff engage students in the classroom, establishing relationships that help to improve individual learning, inspire everyone to consider a college education, and open their eyes to a multitude of career pathways with companies in Maryland. We take a personal, hands-on approach to mentoring that helps bridge the knowledge gap, humanizes the working world, and guides each student to achieve the future they imagine for themselves.

The Office of College and Career Readiness consistently improved the life trajectory for City Schools students. National Student Clearinghouse data verified by the Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC) showed that, in addition to a 2-percentage point increase in City Schools' college-going rate from 2014 to 2015, a statistically significant shift in the proportion of students enrolled in 4-year institutions, from 46.0% in 2014 to 53.3% in 2015.A collective impact approach effectively facilitated collaboration among City Schools staff and partners, including those in industry, area colleges and universities, community-based organizations, and national college access partners to substantially increase college and career readiness, access, and success for Baltimore City students.

As the district's first director of college and career readiness, adapted and applied best practices from the Chicago Consortium for School Research to improve the success of students as they transitioned to high school. Actively engaged in a researcher-practitioner partnership (RPP), working closely with embedded researchers from the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. Refined data reporting systems on postsecondary readiness and success. Utilized federal GEAR UP grant resources to catalyze collective impact efforts, coordinating the work of 55 organizations across the community, with substantial improvements in key milestones. FAFSA completion in Milwaukee increased from 42% in 2013 to 72% in 2018, with the work having continued well beyond my tenure.

-Strengthened and expanded district-wide college readiness and access initiatives in collaboration with community and corporate partners.-Provided leadership for the district office of school counseling.-Leveraged technology tools to expand learning opportunities for all students, including advanced course offerings, as well as interventions for students at-risk for dropping out.

Mathematics & Computer Science (Pulaski HS & South Division HS, 2001-2009)-Taught mathematics courses from pre-algebra to pre-calculus, including bilingual classes at South Division, as well as a variety of computer education courses, utilizing Moodle and SMART Board technologies.School Programmer (Pulaski HS, 2008)-Collaborated with administration and department chairs to revise school's course catalog, then oversaw student course selection.-Ensured effective course scheduling for 1700 students in a school with six small learning communities.Learning Coordinator (Pulaski HS - Opportunity Center, 2006-2007)-Facilitated organization and implementation of credit-recovery program for repeating freshmen.-Coordinated cross-curricular planning, to motivate and educate at-risk youth.

Prepared and delivered curricula for incoming freshmen using interactive technology. Courses included Calculus, Statistics and Probability, and Introduction to Business Math.

Coached back-to-back NCWA All-Americans.

Coordinated cross-curricular planning for project-based instruction. Students developed and marketed a product (hand lotion). Provided mathematics and technology lessons toward project objectives.
