I have also chaired the Strategy and International Business Department, the Faculty Governance Council and Faculty Assembly, and I am currently the Chairperson of the new Department of Public Service and Healthcare Administration.I was the recipient of a Fulbright Award for a four-month stay in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2021, where I researched access to electricity and the impact of climate change on energy resources in the Central Asia, in addition to teaching at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek.In the course of a sabbatical leave in the fall of 2014, I spent four months in Rio de Janeiro researching the current levels of access to electricity, water, and sanitation in low-income communities in the Rio metropolitan area, as well as the political and institutional determinants of the current situation, and initiatives and business models developed by a variety of organizations to improve access to these services. -

(2) Examined the development of new business models for smart grids incorporating distributed renewable generation resources.- Rio Light: Executed a 2-year, $100,000+ project on access to electricity service for the urban poor in Rio de Janeiro, and conducted a subsequent study of the impact of violence on access to basic services for the urban poor.- United States Agency for International Development (USAID): (1) Analyzed electricity access in informal urban areas for USAID’s $100m Clean Energy Initiative. (2) As leader of a three-person team, analyzed the development of the Central American regional electricity marketto develop strategic recommendations for U.S. government support.- World Resources Institute: developed participatory policy-making mechanisms.
