The biggest issue I had to deal with during my PhD time was the creation of a new sythetic turbulence to make embedded LES more interesting from an industrial point of view. The starting point was the Synthetic Eddy Method (SEM) which I developped into a divergence free form (DF-SEM). The new method showed increased performance compared to classical synthetic turbulence and, furthemore, a new algorithm to couple synthetic turbulence with hybrid methods such as DDES was proposed as well.
