Working for the customer and latest for the patient! That is basically the sentence that describes what this role is all about independently of the department you are. When I joined the Customer Support in Freiburg, there was only one hybrid team that end up splitting into three groups: Systems, Physics and Applications. This gave me the opportunity to learn all areas of the TPS products before the separation of the team and after focusing on the Applications side of it always with a physics mindset in the back. During this period I became a Monaco expert and learned all possible bits of it, from the code/engines in the background to the clinical plans that were used to treat the patients.My time was basically spent in trainings (in-house and onsite), service support and sales support in Estro courses and Conferences.

I joined this project to be the Team lead of a team of 10 members (3 in the physics department - 2 dosimetrists and 1 physicst and 6 radiotherapists). I was responsible for the acceptance of all Varian equipment (CLINAC 2100CD, Acuity Simulator, Eclipse WS and Varis Vision) and PTW equipment (Big water tank and the complete kit for 3D dosimetry including photon and electron ICs and a daily QA Output Check with the PTW electrometers). I implement the TRS-398 code of practice, an entire QA protocol, from Daily QA to Annual QA (Machine QA), the clinical planning protocols for all anatomical sites agreed with the Radiation Oncologists and an independent treatment plan verification method (Patient QA). Due to the fact the Varian FSE was 3hours away, I got 1st Line training with Varian to do 1st line interventions on the machine to minimize downtime and avoid patient treatments disruption. During the last year I was responsible for implementing Film dosimetry as part of a broader IMRT QA project and I presented a Poster with this work at Estro that year.

Working at CUF Descobertas allowed me for the fist time to be part of the Clinical staff responsible for the treatment of thousands of patient per year. I was part of the Physics department and we had a Elekta Precise LINAC, MOSAIQ and 3 XiO TPS. The dosimetry equipment was provided by Scandidos. My main tasks were focused on the Medical Physics routines like planning, verification of plans, Daily QA, Annual QA and Radiobiological calculations.
