About Rui Roberto Ramos

Holds a PhD in Digital Innovation issued by Lancaster University – UK, an MRes on the same subject issued by the same institution and a BSc in Computer Science and Business Management issued by the University Institute of Lisbon – Portugal (ISCTE). His research is post-structuralist spanning the disciplines of Organisation Studies (OS), Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) with a particular interest in critically-oriented ethnographic accounts of the interplay between technology (broadly) and organisations and its effects on socio-economic development. His PhD thesis reports on a thick ethnographic account of informal street trade and its formalisation in Recife, Brazil, with a critical focus on the role that technologies play in this context. His areas of interest include, but are not limited to, organisational informality and formalisation, digital materiality and performativity, innovation (digital, frugal, open, inclusive), organisational and urban ethnography, post-development and Global South.
