Indie-town.uk is a project to connect and educate people who wish to set up independent town or parish councils in the United Kingdom. Founded on the success of the Frome Town Council, which at the 2015 election became the first UK Town Council to have all its seats occupied by independent members and which has become the benchmark example of this way of running local politics in the UK.I shall close this site unless someone would like to take it on. There’s a General Election happening in uk next year: might be time to give this a refresh but I don’t have the time any longer!

A charity to further community communications in the town of Swindon, Wiltshire, UK. The charity administers the Swindon Viewpoint video production facility, the Western Film Archive and Media Aid, a media training organisation.After 50 years of the Viewpoint brand, the directors and some of the original staff are looking at the options for the future of this historic enterprise and assessing the viability of a video-based community media training and production platform in Swindon. Much needs to be achieved to keep it alive, but thanks to Martin and Hannah Parry, the current trustees and countless volunteers since 1973, this is still a piece of broadcasting history that at the very least needs preserving!

Swindon Viewpoint is the UK's first and longest-running community radio and tv channel. It ran from 1973-80 as a staffed community facility in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK and continues to this day as a voluntary production operation. I was lucky enough to be the Station Manager from 1977 until we ran out of cash in 1980. In July, 2012, following an extensive period of rebuilding and archiving and 10 years of continuous activity, the company's board met to determine the future of the station in the light of the digital revolution and the opportunities now opening up for local community communications. A major re-brand and fundraising programme took place for Swindon Viewpoint and Viewpoint Community Media was set up. Now in it's 50th year, decisions have to be made as to its future. We have thousands of digitised videos from the organisation’s past and more recent work which are used by many researchers and broadcast professionals to illustrate the concept and power of community-generated video.

Managed staff of 7, volunteer base of 75+. Responsible for 5 hours of original TV and 20 hrs of online radio per week, Produced and edited weekend flagship 3 hr show, "This is Swindon".Upheld concepts of community broadcasting at the start of the community revolution.
