Drilling Operations:Land Drilling PreparationA drilling rig is a machine which creates the holes (usually called boreholes) and/or shafts in the ground. The term “rig,“ therefore, generally refers to the complete complex of equipment that is used to make a well.Before a land-based well can be drilled:The site must be prepared, including leveling the land on which the derrick will be assembled.Access roads must be created so workers and equipment can get to/from the rig.Reserve pits need to be dug so cuttings, material and used mud can be properly disposed of. In some locations, environmental laws prohibit drillers from digging mud pits. Instead, large metal bins are used at the rig site to catch all cuttings and waste materials which are then hauled offsite for disposal.The final step in site preparation is to dig what is called a cellar for equipment that will be needed during the well drilling operations. The cellar can be dug and formed in place with concrete, or it can be a pre-fabricated, four-walled steel structure that is driven into the ground to the desired depth. The cellar is set at the exact place where the well will be centered.

Reservoir drill-in fluids/completion fluids product and system laboratory development. Fluent in the design and evaluation of water based reservoir drill-in fluids, oil based reservoir drill-in fluids, and completion fluids. Training of M-I SWACO personnel in reservoir drill-in fluid and completion fluid design and testing procedures. Documentation of technical project results and testing procedures for reservoir drill-in fluids/completion fluids research and engineering reports. Responsible for maintaining ISO 9001 specifications for the completion technology technical services laboratory. Designed stand-alone reservoir drill-in fluids laboratory. Responsible for implementation of laboratory design and acquisition of laboratory equipment.

Responsible for testing drilling fluids per API testing procedures; reporting drilling fluid properties; technical recommendations on the most efficient application of drilling fluid chemicals; inventory control; documentation of well activities; well recap analysis and completion of Environmental Protection Agency tests & reports. Worked primarily offshore for Shell Offshore in deep water (Green Canyon, Garden Banks and Viosca Knoll). Fluid technologies utilized: Water Base Fluid systems ~ Lime Base, PHPA, NaCl/PHPA and mud to cement slag mixing for casing cementing operations.Provided key support in the field and in the laboratory for the design, evaluation and implementation of novel mud to cement technology for casing cementing applications for Shell.
