The database just happened to be Netezza. Netezza is a data warehouse appliance that is used for Big Data Analytics. Being an appliance, IBM takes care of the software and hardware issues. Netezza is based on the Postgres engine. It's a little different than other databases I've worked with, but not too much. In many ways, it is much simpler, once you understand it.Some of my clients. Most of these I have worked at several different times over the years. Best Buy is in the lead with 8 different times, followed by FRB with 3. Often times I've balanced time been many of them at the same time.- Best Buy- Pace Analytical Services- Bibliotheca- Integramed- Lakana- Advocate Health Group- State of Minnesota Department of Health Services and SSIS- Federal Reserve Bank- Aeropostale- Thomson Reuters- Prepare Enrich- Digital River- Sure Scripts- GovDelivery- Merrill Corporation- Capella Education Show less

My time at Born was quite an experience. It was a time of personal and professional growth for me, and it was also a lot of fun. Many of the people I worked with are still some of my closest friends and business partners. We don't always make the effort to get together, but when we do, it's always the same group that is the last to leave. (You guys know who you are) As a Consultant (May 2002 – April 2003 and May 1994 – January 1997)Originally, I was hired as a staff consultant… Show more My time at Born was quite an experience. (You guys know who you are) As a Consultant (May 2002 – April 2003 and May 1994 – January 1997)Originally, I was hired as a staff consultant. I had done some Oracle development before, but hadn't done any database design. I was essentially a guy who could code. It was Born that gave me the opportunity to get into Oracle database architecture and design. I had a couple of stints as a consultant. After I took on a couple of management roles, I never really stopped consulting. I still consulted about 500 hours a year. Some of the work I did during this time:Oracle- Several clients that used Oracle on Netware (I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Definitely different)- Supporting application development teams- Database Architecture and Design- Performance Tuning- Mentoring- Conducted technical interviews for Born Oracle and BI reporting candidates- Migrating databases to Oracle from other database platforms- PRO*C. It was one of the few ways to increase performance for many things. Some of my clients:- Cargill- Carlson Hospitality- UCare Minnesota- Wells Fargo- Anagram Int'lAs a Business Unit Manager, Enterprise Technologies (January 1997 – May 2002)Management for me started out as billing about half time, helping sell projects. I was just a consultant that handled some of the operations management.I will let the consultants who were in my business unit decide if I was a good manager or not, but I found out that managing is much different than solving technical problems. If you can imagine how you would handle managing a 120+ person practice during the dot com bust, you'll understand what I mean. Show less

Tybrin had just been awarded the software support contract for Eglin AFB, FL. The first projects I was assigned to were weather data dissemination systems for Eglin AFB, and another for Patrick AFB, FL. The work for Patrick AFB was created after the Space Shuttle Columbia landed at Eglin AFB, on the 747. The flight crew got their briefing using our first release of the software we created for Eglin AFB, and they had a need for a similar system. I still have a mission patch from STS-32. Show less
