    Design and implementation of Distributed Multidimensional Database for Big Data as part of data services within a Business Intelligence Platform, aka project Constellations. From the BI point of view, Constellations logically consists of stars with conformed dimensions. Data services handle all BI processes that move data in and out the system, including importing, profiling, analyzing and mining data, scoring, what-if analysis, optimization, etc. Behind the logical schema, data is physically organized in a multidimensional manner, going well beyond row or column oriented constructs. Data in internal storage is encoded and compressed, and query processing uses unique scanning algorithms (see paper at http://arxiv.org/abs/1310.0141) that do not require indexing but are much superior to full scan. Plug-in back end architecture allows for any ordered key-value data storage, standalone or distributed, in-memory or disk-based, including (a tweaked version of) HBase on Hadoop. Analytic requests can be SQL queries against the logical schema or direct functional transformations, resulting in a combination of local/distributed/remote execution plans. As a result, the Java-based query engine outperforms most industrial and open source alternatives (including C-based and non-Hadoop based ones) on ad-hoc queries by orders of magnitude.
