About Russ Armstrong
I am a results-driven product owner with more than 20 years of software development experience with the last 10 years working as part of a scrum team filling the roles of Product Owner, Product Manager and Scrum Master. I have a vast experience in business systems analysis, data analysis, system implementation and product support spanning various industries such as cloud, telecom, networking, storage, mortgage and accounting. I spent the early portion of my career working in mortgage banking and finance beginning with Chase as an Accountant; then progressing into loan processing and loan underwriting (Retail and Wholesale); and from there into loan accounting as a financial analyst; and finally into IT supporting loan origination software. After being laid off from Lehman Brothers I switched to Telecom when I got a job with Qwest Communications. Qwest went through several changes during the 15 years that I was with them including changing the name to CenturyLink and then to Lumen. My work with the company varied based on the particular role that I had, but always centered around software development and product support including communication, internet, cloud, virtual machine, storage, VPN.I am seeking a new opportunity to leverage my background and experience in software development.Core Competencies:Scrum ceremonies | Backlog Refinement | Release Planning | Scrum of Scrums | Project Management | Requirements Gathering | Persona Flows | User Acceptance & Business Validation Testing | WSJF Feature Ranking | Customer Demos | Data Mapping | XML Schema | Front End UX | Web Service API’s | Micro-Apps | Mobile Applications | Thinking outside the Box | Project & Task LifecycleSOFTWARE SKILLSJira | Jira Align | Rally | Caliber | Confluence | Service Now | MS Office Apps | SAFe Scrum | Scrum at Scale | Visio.

Current
Product Owner & Product Solution Manager
I worked in the capacity of a Product Owner, Product Manager, and Scrum Master. My duties changed as the business needs changed in support of new product features and associated deliveries. I gathered and documented business requirements as product features and user stories, using the formats of use case, TDD, and BDD. I collaborated with Scrum teams to have updated features implemented based on a release cadence. My responsibilities included serving as the main content authority and lead in Product Development efforts through design and development within Architecture, Engineering, Strategic Planning & Information Technology. I was responsible for ensuring on-scope, on-time, and on-budget delivery of the product portfolio objectives, including business requirements definition and prioritization, driving cohesive end-to-end solutions, representation of Product within SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) Program Planning sessions, and full testing of strategic initiativesKey accomplishments• Developed and released Network Storage product that provided a new storage option for our customers needing block and file, disaster recovery, or very large quantities of imaging.• Converted a stand-alone Cloud Storage portal to a micro-app within a services portal to eliminate the redundancy of user admin and entitlement functions.• Created and published current UI functions as API’s so that a developer can setup new storage without stepping through the UI.• Updated the release process to utilize automated tools to minimize portal downtime• Update of Web Logic applications to use Rancher for containerization as part of application modernization.
Product Owner
Working in the capacity of a Product Owner on 2 UX scrum teams and in support of our Enterprise customers I supported the specific areas of Service Assurance, Service Delivery, Inventory, SSO connections, Alerts and product onboarding. Working on the business team I was responsible to participate in the design at the 50,000 foot level and conversion of those ideas to actual requirements that were detailed enough for both development and test efforts. Duties include system and product support, UAT, business validation testing, both customer and internal demos, and hands on direct support of product releases with the last 2 being Lumen Engage and the suite of Marvel products. I am very well versed at understanding product inception and the specific areas of inventory and inventory functions from both a UX and data perspective. I have most recently managed documentation with use of the following tools: Jira, VIA, Power BI, Power point and Visio. Key accomplishments• Created a new repair ticketing system that leveraged the best user experiences from each of the merged companies (Level3 and CenturyLink). The new system provided a better experience for our customers to report inventory issues that were not proactively caught beforehand.• Collaborated with stakeholders to combine the inventories of the 2 merged companies into a single experience so that each customer would be able to utilize the same inventory experience and see all of their inventory in a single summary view.• On-boarded a new VoIP product that could be ordered, shipped, and installed within a few days instead of the typical 60 to 90 days.• Collaborated with others to create a new ordering process that allowed for account creation, order details, and inventory views to be processed and displayed to the salesperson and customer in less than one hour. Previously, it took several days on average for this same data to be displayed.
Lead It Analyst
I collaborated with the product development team as the IT Analyst to create a new customer portal, and designed and converted customer-facing telecom applications into modified front-end and back-end requirements. My duties included system support and management of projects via use cases, support of business process management with wire frames and flow charts, coordination and prioritization of requirements, and system implementation. I was responsible for engineering solutions to integrate legacy systems into a one-stop portal implementation including data migration & data integrity through single sign-on to access multiple product inventories supported on desktop, tablet and phone platforms.Key accomplishments• Helped create and implement a new customer portal that made it easier for customers to perform administrative functions, manage their inventory, view existing orders, create and view repair tickets, run inventory and performance reports, and view or pay their invoice. • Implemented of a new circuit monitoring system that proactively notifies a customer of potential outages and allows a customer to either schedule an intrusive test or to simply create a repair ticket when the device is not reachable. Prior to this we were notified by the customer when an issue arose, so this created a much improved customer experience.
