My career has been based on helping others solve problems. For 25 years as Hobbs City Engineer, I focused on being kind and and listening to each person who came to me with a problem. After determining the problem, I did everything I could do to help solve the problem. After retiring from the City, I became the Part Time Executive Director of the non-profit Lea County Housing, Inc. We worked with Chelsea to develop two LIHTC apartment complexes in Hobbs for low to moderate income individuals and families and continue to provide community building and Fiscal Literacy support for the residents. We teach First Time Home Buyer Education with many graduates who have gone on to purchase homes. We also help callers access the supportive housing program to obtain affordable rental housing.In 2014, I began work with Souder Miller and Associates as a Senior Engineer P.E. to open a new office in Hobbs. I focus on Engineering Planning work to help NM communities with Asset Management, Water Conservation Plans (with GPCD and Water Audit), and other Comprehensive Planning, Strategic Planning, and Master Planning work. I also provide Project Management on a variety of Infrastructure Projects. I really enjoyed two recent projects. The first was providing compliance services with a NM Attorney General Directive for Xcel Energy on the $900 million Sagamore Wind Farm project. This was a big challenge and took a lot of work, but it worked out very well. The second recent project was serving as project oversight manager for the Village of Ruidoso, NM overseeing the development of four enterprise utility master plans (water, sewer, WWTP, and Solid Waste) performed concurrently by four teams from two different engineering firms along with a separate Rate Study and Financial Analysis performed by a separate firm. This project required extensive coordination with the Village Staff and consulting firms with a comprehensive project calendar and reviews of each master plan. Upon completion of this project, I was asked to make a presentation about the project at a statewide infrastructure planning conference. This entire process was very enjoyable.As a former city employee, I understand the challenges of city staff and do all I can to listen to specifically determine what they need and help them reach their goals. I strive to determine extremely cost-effective solutions that are "right sized" and sustainable for their community. I really enjoy helping cities become the best they can be.
