About Russell Hart

My background is with experimental atomic physics with a focus on ultracold atomic and molecular gases. I have 20 years of experience with lasers, optics, electronics, rf and microwave devices, ultra-high vacuum technology, optical and microwave cavities, atomic clock and atomic interferometer techniques, and software to run the experimental apparatus and characterize the resulting data. I am interested in working with and developing new technologies in fundamental research and engineering.

    Demonstrated narrow-line laser cooling and magneto-optic trapping of fermionic lithium, allowing for efficient creation of quantum degenerate Fermi gases of Lithium. Used the Fermi gas, loaded into a 3D optical lattice, to observe antiferromagnetic correlations in the Fermi-Hubbard model. This work involved construction and maintenance of the apparatus which produced the Fermi gas, and implementation of a 3D optical lattice potential able produce very cold Fermi gases within the lattice.

    Observed quantum phase transitions in one dimension and confinement-induced scattering resonances using ultracold bosons loaded into optical lattices, and worked towards the production of a quantum degenerate gas of rovibronic ground state molecules. This work entailed the operation and maintenance of an apparatus used to create a Bose-Einstein condensate and transfer this to a Mott insulator within a 3D optical lattice, and operation of a laser system, locked to high finesse optical cavities and referenced to an optical frequency comb, used to coherently transfer loosely bound molecules over 110 THz to rovibronic groundstate molecules.
