About Russell Yang
I'm Russell, an experimental physicist.I'm pursuing an M.S. in Computational Science & Engineering at Harvard University (yes, you read that right; no, I did not leave physics). I graduated at the top of my class with a B.A. in Physics from Oxford University, and attained awards for being the leading experimental physicist in all my three years there. I am a proud member of my college, Christ Church.My personal vision is to usher Singapore into the age of the Second Quantum Revolution. Quantum technologies have unlimited potential to transform the way we live our daily lives. The once-nascent field is now shaping industries such as defence, finance, computing, and communications. I take it upon myself to ensure that Singapore is not left behind, but instead becomes a global leader in the technological race for quantum supremacy.You may visit my Google Scholar page to view my latest publications. Below are some of my recent academic interests and research activities. Feel free to contact me if you wish to collaborate.โข ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ: My current research interests lie in quantum information processing, quantum sensing, and emerging technologies relevant to the Second Quantum Revolution. I am open to both atomic/optical and solid-state platforms, as I believe both will be highly relevant. Additionally, I engage with theoretical condensed matter, non-Hermitian physics, and general computational physics on the side.โข ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ : My main tools are Mathematica and Python. My mantra is that if you want something easy, use Mathematica. If you want something fast, use Python (or C). If you want something hard, use MATLAB. Machine learning, stochastic methods, Bayesian techniques, and general numerical recipes are all available in my arsenal of tools.โข ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐ก๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง: I use Blender and Adobe Suite to illustrate scientific diagrams! I enable scientists to use graphic design and 3D modelling to communicate. Data is beautiful. I promote the use of good artistic practices such as composition, colour theory, and effective data visualisation for public communication.โข ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐๐ก: I engage in science outreach, especially to youths and communities with limited access to science. My passion lies in using public speaking, captivating experiments, and stunning visuals to get youths from marginalized and under-represented communities engaged in science.
